There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, features 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features many luxuries on top of the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
