There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
